Annabel completed Reiki First Degree in 1989 and received initiation as a Master in 1991, from which time she maintained a small Reiki teaching and treatment practice alongside her other work. In 2004 she retired from the paid workforce and continues to conduct Reiki classes and to provide hands-on treatments in far north Queensland. Her Reiki practice also includes facilitating, in conjunction with her partner, Reiki Australia member Mark Ruge, workshops that provide an opportunity for Reiki practitioners to explore more deeply the potential for personal and spiritual enrichment inherent in the Usui System.

Annabel joined the Professional Standards team in 2004. From almost 40 years working initially as a social worker, and later as an organisational consultant with a focus was on individual, management and team effectiveness, Annabel brought a broad range of skills to the team.

From her background in designing training to address defined competencies, and interpreting and ensuring compliance with accreditation standards, Annabel has made a significant contribution to Reiki Australia’s professional development materials for Reiki treatment practice, including the nationally accredited 10346NAT Certificate IV in Reiki Treatment Practice. She holds a Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Workplace Assessment.
Annabel served as Chair of the Reiki Australia Board from 2006 to 2012; she enjoys writing, contributes regularly to a community-based magazine in Cairns, and has co-authored a book, 'Turning Points. Regaining Joy after Loss', which deals with recovery following major life change.

Wendy Watson

Wendy Watson

Wendy has a background in biological sciences and education. She began her career path in medical pathology managing a haematology department with the Commonwealth Department of Health. Wendy furthered her education in natural therapies studying massage, naturopathy, iridology, nutrition and herbal medicine before specialising in homoeopathy.

In 1985 Wendy began her work as a Reiki treatment practitioner and in 1987 added homeopathy to her fulltime private practice. She currently operates the Wellspring Clinic in Caboolture.

Wendy is an elder in the Australian Reiki community having first been initiated into the Reiki in 1985. She trained as a Reiki Master in 1995 and regularly conducts Reiki classes. Wendy is a founding member of Reiki Australia and has been the manager of the Professional Development Team, as well as being a director and Chair of the Reiki Australia Board.

Wendy has strong case management and organisational skills developed through overseeing a diverse caseload. She brings this clinical experience and a scientific perspective to the Professional Development project.

Wendy made a significant contribution to the development of Reiki Australia’s nationally accredited 10346NAT Certificate IV in Reiki Treatment Practice. During the review of the Health Training Package HLT02, she also served as a member of the Industry Reference Group (IRG) for Complementary and Alternative Health.

Sue  Broughton

Sue Broughton

Professional Development Team Member

Sue has more than 30 years’ experience as a practising therapist, commencing with remedial massage, then incorporating various natural healing modalities including Reiki, along the way. She is the Owner / Director of a very successful Day Spa operation on the Sunshine Coast Hinterland, Casa Di Natura, as well as the RTO Manager of Australian Institute of Health & Business Management (AIHBM), a registered training organisation specialising in two modalities – Reiki and BodyTalk.

Sue has also worked in large organisations in management positions, in the vocational training, recruitment, telecommunications, construction and power transmission industries. Prior to becoming self-employed in 2010, she ended her corporate career as the National Training Manager in the construction / power transmission industry, managing a multi-million-dollar national training budget that provided an extensive training and assessment program under the AQTF guidelines, to over 250 people.

With her business partner Melissa Smith, Sue co-wrote and jointly owns 10334NAT Certificate IV in BodyTalk, the only formal qualification in BodyTalk in any country at this time. A member of the Professional Development Team since 2010, Sue’s knowledge and experience was very significant in Reiki Australia’s achievement of national accreditation of 10346NAT Certificate IV in Reiki Treatment Practice.

Steve Ibbotson

Steve Ibbotson

Steve completed his Reiki First Degree in 2009 and received initiation as a Master in 2012; he has been actively in practice since 2009, and teaching Reiki since 2012.

Steve has had an extensive background in the health and emergency services spanning more than 45 years, both as a front-line emergency worker and in management roles; in addition, he has been involved in developing, delivering and reviewing training in the VET and University sectors. His specialty area is in business practice and occupational health and safety, and he has had appointments as a consultant to the Victorian Worksafe small business program. He is formally retired from the workforce, however still provides some consultancy work in business practice and occupational health and safety. He holds a number of academic qualifications in these areas.

In conjunction with other team members, Steve has assisted for several years in developing and reviewing Reiki Australia’s professional development materials.

Sharron Mackison

Sharron Mackison

Sharron undertook her initial Reiki training in 1990, trained as a Reiki Master in 1996. Sharron has gained both depth and breadth as a Reiki treatment practitioner, havng conducted treatments, with a diversity of clients, since 1993. She is also an accredited Clinical Hypnotherapist, and Counsellor, and a professional superviser for both the Australian Society of Clinical Hypnotherapists, and the Australian Counselling Association. Her diverse career background spans the Fine Arts, Retail, Information Technology and Healthcare industries.

Sharron’s diverse clinical Reiki treatment experience allows her a unique opportunity to inform the development of professional Standards for Reiki. From her experience as a supervisor she also brings a strong focus on professional development, industry and ethical issues. This background has enabled her to offer supervised clinical practice for Reiki students in the absence of defined industry standards.

Sharron is a founding member of Reiki Australia and was formerly a director on the board.
