Since its inception, Reiki Australia has championed the cause of establishing professional standards for Reiki treatment. Our deep desire is to see professional Reiki treatment widely accepted by mainstream medicine, enabling the comfort of Reiki to be available to patients in Australian hospitals and hospices.
Over a decade, culminating in 2013, tens of thousands of person-hours, including extensive national consultation with Reiki practitioners, Reiki industry groups, health and community facilities, and government training advisers, went into the development of a course for professional Reiki treatment practitioners.
In March 2013, Reiki Australia’s 10346NAT Certificate IV in Reiki Treatment Practice became the only dedicated Reiki treatment qualification to be nationally accredited in Australia at that time.
The qualification covered skills in health assessment, in delivering treatment, and in client safety, and offered the level of skill required for independent practice or for employment within health, aged care or community facilities. It was open to people who had completed in-person training in Reiki 1 and Reiki 2 with a Reiki Master whose lineage of initiation is traceable to the founder of the practice, Mikao Usui.
Importantly, the qualification did not teach the personal spiritual practice of Reiki, nor sacred material that properly belongs between a Reiki master and their students.
The Certificate IV was accredited until 2018, and in 2017 we set our sights on national accreditation of a Diploma in Reiki Treatment Practice to replace the Cert IV. The cost of course accreditation rose exponentially between 2013 and 2017, so with the aim of financing re-accreditation, we set up a crowd funding initiative through My Cause.
While we were not successful in raising the amount sought, we were tremendously grateful for all the contributions received, and want to convey our heartfelt thanks for the generosity of those who supported our vision in this way. In addition, we wish to acknowledge with deep gratitude the many, many members of Reiki Australia who have contributed over the years, in so many ways to this venture
The demise of 10346NAT Certificate IV in Reiki Treatment Practice has been a sad occasion for Reiki Australia. Nevertheless, our commitment to opening the doors of healthcare facilities to Reiki treatment stays firm, and while we have put our aim of achieving a diploma qualification on hold right now, other initiatives to assist the ongoing development of practitioners who aspire to providing a professional Reiki treatment service have been introduced, and more are in the pipeline.
First for 2018 has been the introduction of a non-accredited Certificate in Professional Development for Reiki Treatment, which covers important knowledge for professional Reiki treatment practitioners, including information about the National Code of Conduct for health care workers, which is a legal requirement for health practitioners in most Australian states and territories.
As new educational opportunities for Reiki treatment practitioners and also Reiki Masters, and practitioners in the personal spiritual practice are introduced, we will be adding details to these pages.
