Give yourself the gift of Reiki

As we come to the closing stages of 2020, we pose you this question: when was the last time you filled your own cup?

After a tumultuous year in so many ways, self-care has become more important than ever. Self-care encompasses anything you do to look after yourself and refresh your mind, body and spirit. When we practice regular self-care, we are able to give those around us the love and energy they crave. It is essential for finding a healthy balance in your life and is a powerful method of self-love.

It’s time to start classifying self-care as a priority in our lives rather than a luxury and fortunately, Reiki is the perfect way to do this! Read on as we share how giving yourself the gift of Reiki is the most beautiful form of self-care.

We often turn to self-Reiki when we’re feeling out of balance or disconnected in some way, shape or form. This could be feeling a spiritual disconnection, out of balance because of anxiety, stress or tiredness or even when you’re needing extra support after illness or an emotional experience. As our mind, body and spirit are wholeheartedly connected, self-Reiki can support us in shifting these negative energies and guide us towards clarity and harmony.

Begin by finding a comfortable position. Just like we encourage our clients, find a space that allows you to immerse yourself to total relaxation. For some, this could be laying down in a quiet space, for others, it could be sitting in their favourite serene space. Whatever feels most comfortable and uninterrupted to you.

You can choose whether you would like to listen to relaxing music or indulge in a moment of peace and quiet. This is your moment of self-care; there are no rules of how you prepare yourself for self-Reiki.

Begin your self-Reiki session, using the hand positions you have been taught. Thoughts will wander in and out of your mind and that is okay! Guide yourself back from the thoughts and intrusions and focus on the Reiki. This can be a difficult art to master but accepting that your mind will try and distract you is the first step to giving yourself over to the present moment.

Through self-Reiki, your central nervous system will begin to slow down, relax and guide you to healing physically, emotionally and spiritually. Finding this balance can lead you to discovering a life of less anxiety, exhaustion, more clarity and most powerfully, a greater connection and appreciation for yourself and those around you.

Our 21-day self-Reiki challenge is here to help you prioritise self-care. Beginning January 1st, 2021, we’re kicking off the new year with 21 days straight of giving back to ourselves and filling our own cups. Our challenge is not only here to welcome a more balanced version of you into the new year but create a powerful habit that you can carry throughout the remainder of the year and beyond.

We’re encouraging you to inspire others around you to learn more about the power of Reiki too! Download your 21-day challenge badge and share this as your profile picture throughout the challenge. Engage in conversation about your challenge and how Reiki is available to anyone.

As we know, completing Reiki Level One is the gateway to treating yourself with Reiki. For anyone wanting to get started with our challenge, visit the Reiki Australia website to learn how to get involved and start your journey with this incredible practice.

Creating powerful connections, despite the distance

In 2020, many of us have been separated to those we love by city, state or even country. We have found ways to feel connected to each other despite the distance and Reiki has been a major key. This month, we dive deep into Distance Reiki and how, despite physical separation, we can still support the health and well-being of one another.

Using our distant healing (or absentee healing), Distance Reiki allows practitioners to send healing energy across time and space. Giving us the ability to heal from afar, Distance Reiki embraces the fact that we are all connected, despite any physical distance that is between us.

Distant Reiki can address any issues, just like our in-person practice.

From overcoming negative experiences, our mindset, trouble with sleeping or physical ailments, Distance Reiki allows anyone across the world to benefit from our healing abilities.

While a Distant Reiki session may be practiced in different ways according to the Reiki form and lineage, the intention and outcome are immensely powerful for the recipient.

During a Distance Reiki session, we recommend the receiver should dedicate time prior to their session just for them. And to Createa nurturing, comfortable and serene environment for their session. This may include switching off their devices, finding a comfortable place to lay and ready to accept their Distance Reiki session. With these pre-session rituals, it helps for preparing their body for the healing energy.

Like their pre-session rituals, it is best if the session can take place in an undisturbed environment. The experiences felt during Distance Reiki vary person to person and from treatment to treatment. Whilst some may feel waves of energy through warmth and tingling sensations, some may experience a sense of deep relaxation, peace, and clarity.

When sending Distance Reiki, we must remind ourselves that we are working for the higher good of the individual and to make positive choices through embracing the energy we send their way.

So, does Distance Reiki mean that we can send Reiki to anyone we like? Well, yes, we can, but it is important to seek permission by the recipient. When performing Distance Reiki to someone in a coma or experiencing illness, we are often guided by our intuition to decipher if our Reiki is welcomed, and permission can be asked as part of the process.

When deciding to learn Distance Reiki, it is important to choose a training facilitator that you feel a connection with. Do your research until you find a Master that feels right for you. Taught by celebrated Reiki Masters that lineages can be traced back to Dr Usui. First and Second level Reiki training is provided by Reiki Australia Masters throughout the year. Reiki Australia has a directory of Members for you to explore. First level of education allows you to facilitate Reiki on family, friends, animals, and yourself with further training available to enhance your journey into Second Degree and Further and into a Reiki practitioner.

Visit the Reiki Australia website to learn more about our community of practitioners, our available training options and how to begin your journey to spiritual growth and enlightenment.

Step into your true calling with confidence

So, you’ve decided to take the plunge and step into the role of professional Reiki Treatment Practitioner. You’re excited about moving beyond personal practice and you feel called to offer Reiki beyond family and friends. You’re taking it to the next level!

Your family and friends have all reported that they ‘can definitely feel something’ when you provide Reiki and you know that energy flows right? You know the power of Reiki because you’ve experienced it for yourself. What an amazing service to be able to offer others.

Except when we move beyond our comfort zone and embrace the ‘business’ of Reiki the dream of taking our spiritual and healing practice to the masses suddenly looks a little shaky.

Now instead of the encouraging noises from friends, complete strangers are asking pointed questions. But how does it work? What does Reiki actually do? Where’s the evidence? How do you pronounce Reiki? Do I have to take my clothes off? Who ‘invented it’? Will you be able to cure my irritable bowel syndrome? Do you share my notes with anyone? What happens if I injure myself at your clinic? What are your qualifications?

Whoa … you can see how it can all get a little overwhelming very quickly. I have had all of these questions at one time or another over the years and believe me if you’re not prepared with the answers it can shake your confidence! This in itself would be a crying shame because each and every one of us know Reiki works and we know how beneficial – and well – just amazing it can be when applied to our daily lives.

In order to feel confident in your abilities, and present a professional ‘shop front’, it’s vital to invest a little bit of time and energy into bringing your ‘business’ brain up to speed.

By business brain, I’m talking about balancing your ‘positioning’ with your ‘responsibilities’ as a ‘professional’ service offering to the public.

In terms of ‘positioning’, the number one challenge Practitioners report is that they worry about a lack of ‘credibility’. Those Reiki Practitioners who step up to the plate in a professional scenario have a real desire to be seen as a trusted, credible practitioner – whether in their own clinic or in a medical environment.

Regardless of where you physically ‘practice’, you have specific responsibilities to your clients. These responsibilities cover everything from creating a safe, clean and hygienic space for a Reiki session to take place, to secure record keeping, insurance and even first aid.

This can all seem a little daunting when you consider you simply want to help people – but if you truly feel called to help the public it’s important to put appropriate building blocks in place.

Here at Reiki Australia we understand the old dichotomy between ‘business/money’ and a ‘spiritual practice’, but the reality is you need to have some awareness of your responsibilities to be in a position to promote the benefits of Reiki in a professional capacity.

We realised support was needed in this area so we created a certificate course in professional development for Reiki Treatment Practitioners.  The course covers six key areas – you could say – the six building blocks to a successful, ethical spiritual and healing business.

The great thing about this particular course is that it’s been developed by qualified educators and Reiki professionals – exclusively for our community.

The depth of insights, first-hand experience and the knowledge-share across all six units provides a real business advantage to Reiki Treatment Practitioners in the professional setting.

Instead of worrying about a lack of credibility, imagine ‘knowing’ with certainty you are equipped and qualified to build a thriving Reiki Treatment Practice?  Imagine knowing you are supported and backed by Australia’s leading Reiki organisation. By doing the groundwork, having a sound knowledge base and systems in place, you will feel empowered on a business and professional level, giving you the confidence to step into your true calling on your spiritual and healing path.

Fearless by design Reiki AustraliaReiki Australia – fearless by design

Most of you will have had a chance to look around the new website and will now be getting used to the new look and feel.

The design of a website does not happen by chance and has to be a carefully thought out process. For example, you need to ensure that design elements on one page can be carried over to another. You also need to be across modern trends (such as ‘icons’ and ‘interactive’ elements).

Best Practice web design principles were applied throughout the build. but what does that actually mean?

The main elements under consideration when it comes to Best Practice are as follows:

Purpose

Good web design always caters to the needs of the user. That is, you! So, it’s important to understand whether you are looking for “information” or “entertainment” – this has a major effect on how the website looks. We at Reiki Australia want to provide you with information, yes, but the website is also a platform for a spiritual and healing community.

Communication

My previous experience was very much in print. I love paper and I love print. The rules of writing are very clear in print. But along came the internet and changed all the rules. People do not read content on a website the same way they would a book or newspaper. People scan the first few lines of text and generally move on. This means you have to keep things brief – to the point. Have all your important information at the start of an article. Forget your “beginning, middle and end’ to your story – your audience will have gone by then. You will see going forward, new posts and pages will reflect this.

Typefaces

San Serif fonts are easier to read on line. So, you won’t find ‘fancy flourishes’ or decorative finishes on our site. Ideally you should use size 16px and use a family of 3 typefaces for a streamline design.

Colours

The palette is one of the most important factors of good web design and strong branding. Colours create emotions and you have to be aware of how certain colours affect the audience.

Reiki Australia uses the pantones from the logo itself with a couple of accent colours (this is referred to as triadic in design circles) but generally, you will find the colours in line with spirituality, healing, wellbeing and trust.

  • White: You will see lots of white space on the site. White is the colour of trust, virtue, simplicity, cleanliness, purity and spirituality.

  • Blues and greens are all about calm, safety, openness, health and healing and communications.

  • Oranges and yellows which you may see pop up from time to time are all about happiness, enthusiasm, friendliness, energy and uniqueness.

So, you can see the use of colour plays an important role in website design and doesn’t just happen by chance.

Images

The use of white backgrounds in images and vibrant, bold images are also deliberate as vibrancy shows Reiki Australia is fearless (in standing up for Reiki as a spiritual and healing modality), full of life, and optimistic. White images and white backgrounds in images give the audience space to breathe. White images and white spacing is also a contemporary representation of spirituality – away from the old, heavy, ‘quirky’ purple swirly patterns of spiritual pages of old.

Navigation

The purpose of the website and the scale of content/number of pages dictates navigation. There are pros and cons for one-page design and sub menu navigation design. Reiki Australia uses sub menu navigation because of the number of pages and sections. A one-page website generally has less than 25 pages – Reiki Australia has over 65. Drop down menus guide you through the content easily and quickly.

 “F” Pattern design

This alludes to one of the points I mentioned previously about how people read online compared to how they read in print. There have been many studies conducted which show we read in an F shape online. This means you have to ensure all your important content (and design) falls into that shape where possible.

So that’s your crash course in Best Practice web design. Hopefully this provides some background as to why some decisions have been made on the Reiki Australia site – particularly if you are finding the design radically different – or you are concerned it doesn’t represent your idea of a traditional Reiki or spiritual page – quite the opposite. We have gone to great effort to ensure Reiki Australia is not only established in terms of professional reiki practice – but also – just as importantly – considers your needs in your own very personal, private Reiki and Spiritual journey.

In the meantime, if there is anything you would like to see more of, or would like me to explain further, please do get in touch with me, Evie at marketing@reikiaustralia.com.au

Reiki Australia Fighting for Reiki StandardsAt last. The new-look Reiki Australia website is here!

Hello everyone. We’re just a little bit excited today.

Here at Reiki Australia, we’re celebrating the launch of our new-look website. In fact this is the very first post shared on this new platform. What do you think? Do you love it?

We know it looks a little different from our old site but we wanted to face the future with a bold, vibrant confidence worthy of Australia’s leading Reiki membership organisation.

It was time for a change. While we give thanks for where we came from, we are excited by the path that lies ahead. We asked you what you wanted from your membership with Reiki Australia and we were listening.

As you scan through these pages and visit our social media platforms you may read a lot about about ‘taking your reiki treatment practice to the next level’. This sums up our philosophy in bringing you this new website – taking Reiki Australia and our membership base to the next level.

However, this is not just a place for ‘professional’ practitioners – this is your Reiki community no matter where you are on your Reiki journey.  Yes – we care about raising the benchmark on professional Reiki treatment standards but we are equally committed to supporting you in your personal spiritual practice too.

Design
You will see lots of ‘white space’ on the website. While it’s great we are in line with Best Practice website design, we were more concerned about being true to our spiritual and healing roots. White is the colour of purity, spirituality, openness and trust. So while you won’t see the more traditional spiritual ‘purple swirly images’ on here, you will feel as though you have entered as modern, spiritual space. After all, that’s what each of us hope with Reiki – that it be as part of the modern world today as the traditional world of our predecessors. You will also see lots of bold, vibrant images which inject energy and positivity into your day. These images show we are ‘fearless’ in our quest to bring the benefits of Reiki to a wider audience.

New features
We have packed so much into the new site now making it even easier to get involved with your Reiki community

  • Online Store bringing you our professional development courses and a range

This is your website so we hope you’ll get involved whether it’s joining our community conversation on our blog, attending Reiki Share Days, or perhaps even volunteering your time and skills to Reiki Australia.

Throughout the coming months, we will be adding to our Research Library, to provide the resources you need when it comes to promoting the benefits of Reiki to others.

Voices of Reiki – Gendai Reiki Ho

GendaiReiki Australia honours Reiki branches which have a lineage traceable to the founder of the system of Reiki, Mikao Usui. We are delighted to present Gendai Reiki Ho in Reiki Australia’s ongoing series “Voices of Reiki“.  The author of this article, Yuki Tamura, is the Australian representative for Gendai Reiki Ho and it’s founder Hiroshi Doi.

Gendai Reiki Ho – Beautiful Harmony with effectiveness of Western Reiki and Spiritual growth of Traditional Reiki. Gendai Reiki Ho was founded by Hiroshi Doi, a current member of “Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai” a society created by Mikao Usui. Hiroshi Doi first learned Reiki I & II in 1993 with Mieko Mitsui, a Radience Technique Reiki master living in N.Y.,and he experienced its high effectiveness. Not long afterwards, in October 1993, he accepted an opportunity to become a member of “Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai”, and received training in this Japanese form by Kimiko Koayama, the 6th president. Hirosho Doi realised the high spiritual orientation of Koyama sensei’s teaching and found some differences with Western Reiki. Also around that time, many valuable documents about Usui Sensei and Reiki had been gathered to him, so he compiled them as Gendai Reiki Ho. Hiroshi Doi published his first book “Iyashino Gendai Reiki Ho” (Japanese) in May 1998 which was translated into 7 languages. This book was revised and published in English as “A Modern Reiki Method for Healing” and was so popular it sold out. The long-anticipated reprint will be released in a new edition at the “Gendai Reiki Ho International Gathering” in Madrid/ Spain in October 2015. Hiroshi Doi lineage Mikao Usui (Founder of Reiki Ryoho) Kanichi Taketomi (3rd president of Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai) Kimiko Koyama (6th president of Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai) Hiroshi Doi (Founder of Gendai Reiki Ho) Gendai Reiki Ho is a harmony of Western Reiki and Traditional Reiki (Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai). The aim of Gendai Reiki Ho is to attain “Anshin Ritsumei”(Enlightenment) by resonance with Reiki through practising of Reiki healing, self-purification and self-growth techniques with Gokai. The Gendai Reiki Network (GRN) provides materials and information worldwide. A New Health Regulator for Victoria

On February 1st 2017 Victorian health practitioners, including Reiki practitioners, became the most recent subjects of the National Code of Conduct for Non-Registered Health Practitioners.

Victoria has formally implemented the Health Complaints Act and has appointed a Health Complaint Commissioner, Ms Karen Cusack.

The National Code is already implemented in NSW, SA and Qld.

The vast majority of health service providers are ethical, take client dissatisfaction seriously, and do their best to rectify complaints. Unfortunately, some health providers are not safe, through negligence, incompetence or impropriety.

Victoria has now taken a tough stand against dodgy health services and practitioners by:

  1. Expanding the definition of a health provider to include any service or practitioner engaged in assessing or improving a person’s health. This means that the conduct of anyone offering a service, or even working within a service that claims health benefits, are subject to the Code, such as secretaries, practice managers, cleaners etc who come in contact with clients.
  2. Giving the Health Complaints Commissioner new powers to:-
    • receive complaints from anyone, not just the person who sought out, or received the service
    • prohibit a provider from practising
    • ban prohibited providers from other states from practising in Victoria
    • issue public warnings, and the names of providers against whom a complaint has been upheld
    • investigate matters where an official complaint has not been lodged, but there could be cause for a complaint
    • follow-up to ensure compliance with quality improvement recommendations.

Since 2002 Reiki Australia has formally participated in the development of the National Code of Conduct, providing a voice for Reiki, an advocacy for our members, and for the rights of Reiki clients and students.   Our proficiency in describing best practice professional Reiki service has seen Reiki Australia called upon as an expert witness several times by police in three states, assisting investigations into alleged criminal conduct perpetrated by Reiki practitioners. None of the offenders were members of a Reiki organisation.

Reiki Australia supports the implementation of the National Code of Conduct for Non-Registered Health Practitioners.
